Do you find this is because far too often life gets in the way and holds you back from getting the health, fitness & body shape results you desire? Leaving you feeling stuck, beating yourself up that youโ€™ve โ€˜failed againโ€™ & feeling like nothing will ever work for you?

Often what people tell me is they start a plan with good intentions, yet before they know it, theyโ€™re too busy to go to the gym, too busy to prepare healthy meals, or theyโ€™ve had a bad day and found themselves eating their body weight in chocolate or drinking too much wine!

This is often followed up with feelings of guilt, shame & beating themselves up that they’ve slipped off the wagon yet again.

Do you resonate with this?

In my experience in the past 15+ years working in the health & fitness industry, I have worked with many people that struggle with these challenges also.

What Iโ€™ve learned is that for new healthy habits to be consistent you must find ways for them to fit into your life with ease, rather than trying to shape your busy life around the new habits.

Sounds simple yet so many struggle to put this into practice.

On the occasions I catch myself slipping into these old & familiar patterns I reflect on why the new habit is not fitting into my life.

For example. Recently I have returned to train in a gym rather than continuing to use my home gym. This has given me the joy & opportunity to lift heavier weights, but Iโ€™ve had to play around with the days & times that work for me within my routine. It took a good few weeks to find the days and times that work with ease into my routine. Of course there were other factors to contend with beyond my control, such as being unable to use the equipment I wanted to at busy times and the traffic, which I previously did not need to worry about when I was working out at home. It would have been easy to be frustrated that I didnโ€™t finish because it took me longer than planned to get there, or follow my exact plan because the equipment I wanted to use wasnโ€™t free. But I adapted my gym routine on these days as finding ways to be consistent (however small) is one of my core values in achieving health & fitness results.

No matter what life throws at you (and yes sometimes we have to be flexible) but as long as we have some momentum & consistency in the right direction then it is possible to achieve the results that you desire.

In fact in this case there have been benefits to my patience of being flexible by trying different days and times rather than forcing it to happen on specific days and times. I started at the gym initially 2 days a week yet because I have enjoyed the experience and I have found more quieter times than I expected I have now actually found how to regularly integrate 3 sessions into my routine. Bonus!
